Clear the terminal and find the bus stop

Aso Kumamoto Airport is a stop on the Odan route. The stop is outside the terminal, not in the city.

Ride north across the caldera

The route climbs out of the Aso caldera, crosses the Senomoto plateau and drops into the cedar valleys of Minamioguni.

Sit on the right northbound for the Kuju range across the grasslands. This is the stretch people remember, and it is the reason to take the bus rather than a taxi.

Arrive at Kurokawa Onsen

Most inns will collect you if you tell them your arrival time when you book. The walk down is short but it is downhill with a bag.

Good to know
The Kyūshū Ōdan bus calls at the airport itself, so this is the only route into Kurokawa with no transfer at all.
The fare is ¥2,600 (about US$17) one way, from the Ōdan fare table revised August 1, 2026.
Seats are reserved. Book before you fly rather than on arrival, particularly in peak season.
Allow about two hours. The bus climbs out of the Aso caldera, so the ride is scenic rather than fast.
Flying in and out the same day does not work. The last bus back down leaves around 16:25.
